Customer Org Representatives/Prospects

ServiceNow is making it easier for your organization to develop their internal SN talent (and grow an external talent pool) through RiseUp. Career Journeys will make it easier for your learners to know what’s next in their development.

Advocates/Partners

ServiceNow is broadening its approach to developing the next generation of SN talent, looking at all of the elements that contribute to an individual being job ready for key roles. RiseUp initiatives like Career Journeys provide the ‘easy’ button to get started learning and become job ready.

The RiseUp w/SN sales floor consists of the following Interactive stations to navigate the new Now Learning experience:

  • Skills can include communication, project management, leadership.

  • Power skills will be mapped to each career journey level

K23 Power Skills Station Talking Points

Station Conversation Starters

  • Are you interested in career journeys for yourself or for others?
  • What career journey(s) are you most interested in? OR What career journey do you most closely identify with?
  • Beyond ServiceNow technical skills, what additional skills do you think we should include in that journey?
  • What power skills have been the most important to you in your career?

What is a Power Skill?

A transferable skill that can make the difference from being just good at a job to becoming great at a job. It can be a classic “soft” skill such as effective meeting management, or a technical skill such as knowing HTML. These skills are often vital to attaining or excelling in a specific job, and are often expected of incoming job candidates.

Mindset Shift on Job Readiness

With RiseUp, ServiceNow is unveiling a whole host of offerings to make it easier for individuals to learn ServiceNow and more importantly become ready for key roles in our ecosystem. RiseUp represents a mindset shift in how we prepare learners for the workforce, looking at ALL of the skills needed to be successful in a ServiceNow-related job, which includes ServiceNow technical training and certifications, but perhaps just as important are those transferable skills or “power skills” that can make the difference between an individual being good at a job and great at a job.

Strategic Partnership to Source Power Skills Courses

ServiceNow is in the final stages of contract negotiation with a leading third-party content provider of power skills courses. With this partnership, ServiceNow will be able to curate a bundle of power skills courses ideal for ServiceNow learners and the job roles they are seeking.

The Power Skills Experience in Now Learning

When we integrate these power skills courses into Now Learning, the experience will be almost seamless to the user. The courses will be searchable and discoverable and recommendable in Now Learning, just like all of our technical training courses we create in house. Course data will appear in Now Learning (titles, descriptions, buttons to enroll) and progress and completion data will also be integrated with Now Learning so learners will earn badges for every Power Skills course they complete. The only time they will be taken outside of Now Learning the launching and progressing through an actual power skills course, which will be hosted by the third-party content provider.

Integration with Career Journeys

Learners who enroll in career journeys will see relevant power skills listed alongside the other courses and activities recommended to become proficient in a level for a job role. When the third-party integration happens, learners will be able to take those power skills courses alongside the technical training courses that appear on the journey, and see their completions show up on the journey.

Types of Power Skills Courses to be Offered

In the job analysis and instructional design we conducted to create these journeys, we identified a variety of power skills relevant to the different job roles and different levels within those roles. We have a list of over 80 courses we’re looking to source with this strategic partnership. Broadly, some of the topics that these power skills courses will cover include Project Management, Collaboration, Communication, Leadership, Analytics, and Design Thinking.

Value and Cost of the Power Skills Course Bundle

The bundled offering will grant learners access to over 80 power skills courses for a full year. The bundle will cost less than $100 which when you consider any individual course in the regular market can cost anywhere from $20 to $200, that’s a great value to further your professional development.

Credentialing Capstone Demo Talking Points

What Is Happening at Station 3 – Short Version

Equipment:

  • 2 laptops in which participants can experience both a use case study exam and an adaptive simulator.
  • 1 laptop with URL to a Now Learning demographic survey to gather interest in a pilot of the use case study beginning June/July timeframe. In addition, a QR code will be printed for those that want to scan and enter from their phone.

Experience:

With our RiseUp initiative, our Credentialing Program is remodeling and therefore we are testing new ways to assess and ensure an individual is job ready. One change we are evaluating is a capstone event. A capstone event is a combined assessment using both the use case study, and an adaptive simulator, which is the station 3 experience.

  • We want participants to demo the use case study by taking an exam.
  • The exam is reading a very short use case, answering 5 questions, and then providing feedback in Webassessor.
  • The exam is anonymous and it’s okay to guess at the answers.
  • We are looking for feedback on the navigation and functionality of the tool (Webassessor), and the overall experience of reading a scenario and then answering multiple-choice questions using a split screen.
  • Webassessor, the use case, and the exam items are NOT representative of the final product.
  • We also want to capture contact information for anyone wanting to participate in a pilot of these capstone event activities. We will begin communication of the pilot in June/July 2023. Scan the QR code or use the laptop to signu-up
  • We should encourage everyone to experience the adaptive simulator for the full experience of the capstone event.
  • Prompt attendees to visit the other stations as well to hear about career journeys, resumes, and provide feedback for the wall art.

Conversation Starters

    • Question: Would you like to see ServiceNow's Credentialing Team’s new approach using a capstone event to certify our candidates?
    • Question: Do you have 5 minutes to experience and provide feedback on a new way of testing for the ServiceNow Credentialing program?
      • Answer: (if yes), please take a seat and I’ll launch a short 5-question exam with a survey at the end to capture your feedback on the functionality.
      • Answer: (if no), I understand this is not the best time for you. We will be holding a pilot soon that will allow you to demo the use case scenario type of assessment. We want a large group of people to provide feedback on both the tool and the use case scenario. Are you interested in participating in the beta?

  • Manager
    • Question: Would you like to see the Credentialing Team’s new approach to assessments that will ensure your direct reports are job ready?

      • Answer: (if yes), please take a seat and I’ll launch a short 5-question exam with a survey at the end to capture your feedback on the functionality.
      • Answer: (if no), I understand this is not the best time for you. We will be holding a pilot soon that will allow you to demo the use case scenario type of assessment. Additional High-Level Talking Points

  • Have you heard of RiseUp?
    • RiseUp is looking to have 250k individuals job-ready by the end of 2024. With this, we need to look at how we credential (or certify). We are in the process of evaluating other approaches to testing individuals’ abilities to implement the platform ensuring they have the appropriate skills for their role and experience in that role.
  • Our new approach to credentialing evaluates knowledge and performance outcomes, with the use of scenario-based questions and simulators to ensure our credentialed candidates are job-ready.
  • We want our users and the businesses they help to be confident in both the knowledge and skills they bring to the job so in addition to knowledge-based exams we are showcasing a capstone event for credential levels that will prove a certified individual has the necessary skills and are job ready.
  • This is an innovative new way to prove your skills and advance your career in the world of ServiceNow!
  • By demonstrating your expertise through our skill-based testing process, you'll gain newfound confidence in your abilities and be able to prove your talents to employers and colleagues alike. And with a ServiceNow certification, you'll be well on your way to advancing your career and achieving your professional goals.
  • Please be sure to stop by our other stations to learn about career journeys, how to build your resume in Now Learning, and add to our art wall.

A Deeper Dive

What Is Happening at Station 3 – Long Version

  • We are exhibiting our future state for credentialing assessments, which is a capstone event. Our goal is to have participants demo both the use case study exam and adaptive simulator, gather feedback from their experience, and sign-up volunteers for our more in-depth pilot program.
  • Station 3 provides insight into the capstone event that is part of the credential remodel. The capstone event is 2 parts, (1) it allows participants to take a use case study exam and then (2) a performance-based exam using an adaptive simulator. Therefore, station 3 offers both a use case study demo and an adaptive simulator demo.
  • Use case studies are used to assess critical thinking skills and the adaptive simulator allows for demonstration of real-world application of the knowledge. The combination of these two new assessment types verifies a candidate is job ready.
  • The use case study demo only takes 5 minutes and it’s okay if attendees fail. Our goal is to test the functionality of the tool (not fully fleshed out) and gather feedback on the experience. It is important to note this is a demo only and not the end state.
  • The use case study requires an exam to be launched within Webassessor, our exam delivery vendor’s platform.
  • Station 3 worker will log in to Webassessor and launch the exam for the participant. See instructions in the Demo Setup section.
  • Participants will read a very short use case, answer 5 questions, and then complete a quick survey to provide feedback on the experience. This will be anonymous; we will not capture any participant information.
  • We will also ask participants if they want to sign up for our pilot to further test the functionality of Webassessor as well as the use case study content. To sign-up participants will enter their demographics in Now Learning using the laptop or by scanning the QR code. The URL is https://nowlearning.servicenow.com/lxp?id=public_survey&type_id=3e7d95b6c3aee1105c1b9ab4e401315c
  • We should encourage participants to try the Adaptive Simulator by moving to the next computer (Chris Hansen).

Adaptive Simulators Talking Points

Questions to ask those who look interested:

  • Have you ever wondered what your level of expertise is on certain tasks within ServiceNow?
  • Do you want to see instantly if you are at a certifiable level?
  • What would you think about getting certified by doing activities in ServiceNow, rather than answering multiple choice credential exams?
  • Have you ever gotten stuck on a certain task in a simulator, end up submitting a case, and then have to wait for an answer back?
  • Would you like to be part of testing our adaptive simulators in our beta program?

Answers for those who continue to look interested:

  • It’s designed to take about 10 minutes.
  • It’s completely self-running and hands-on.
  • All you need is a Now Learning account. (Help them sign up if they don’t have one.)
  • If you’ve taken a regular simulator, you can take the Adaptive Simulator.
  • We’d love to have you be part of our beta program, but that’s not necessary to try it.

Benefits for the user (this will also be reflected in the looping “attract” video running at the booth):

  • Self-assess your knowledge on various ServiceNow topics.
  • Certify on ServiceNow with hands-on tasks in a live system, instead of memorizing answers for exams.
  • Build real job-readiness with hands-on activities in ServiceNow.
  • Complete a simulator in one sitting. No need to submit cases and wait for assistance.
  • Work and learn at your level – expert, proficient, or beginner.
  • Take the simulator multiple times to improve your level.

(Basic Description)
The Adaptive Simulator:

  • Is essentially a three-layer simulator, with:
    • The hardest (expert-level) instructions presented at the top level,
    • Medium (proficient-level) instructions presented at the second level, and
    • Beginner-level instructions presented at the third level.
  • Allows users to freely navigate down to easier levels as needed, depending on their familiarity with the content presented.
  • Presents users with a comprehensive score at the end of their simulator that accurately describes that users’ level of proficiency.
  • Provides students the opportunity to complete all tasks without the need to open cases and wait for assistance.
  • Also works as an “assessment engine” that can be used to provide hands-on performance-based testing as opposed to multiple-choice question memory-based testing.

Share your experience/aspirations and have them graphically recorded for you and others to see over the course of Expo

Objective

Draw attention to career journeys, credentials, SN Resume with a dynamic and evolving art wall with an “artist in residence” who overhears conversations in and/or interviews visitors to capture their inspirational remarks in a creative way.

Key Points to Drive

  • Encourage visitors to share their response (either directly with the graphic recorder or on a post-it note)

  • Remind visitors to come back to see their ideas, as well as others, reflected on the wall. Each time they come, they will see something different.

K23 Art Installation Talking Points

Objective

The intent of the art wall is to draw attention to the experiences in the RiseUp with ServiceNow show floor, tied to career journeys, with a dynamic and evolving art wall that captures visitor’s thoughts, reactions, inspirations about what they just experienced in the space in a creative and engaging way.

The Experience

There will be 2 graphic recorders (artists), one at either side of the wall, who overhear conversations in the area/interview visitors to capture their remarks. Visitors can also write down their answers to some set prompts on post-it notes. These post-it notes will be curated by our team and shared with the graphic recorders.

The graphic recording will begin on the first day of Expo, May 16th and will continue until end of day on May 17th. On the final day of Expo, visitors will be able to admire the completed wall.

There will be different prompts on either side of the art wall as follows:

  • Side 1 (facing Career Journeys/SN Resume stations):
    • Prompt: What can career journeys do for you? How can they transform your org?
  • Side 2 (facing Credential Station):
    • Prompt: What excites you most about RiseUp with ServiceNow?

Make sure to:

  • Encourage visitors to share their response either directly with the graphic recorder or on a post-it note
  • Remind visitors to come back to see their ideas, as well as those of others, reflected on the wall. Each time they come, they will see something different.
  • Recommend visitors to take a picture with their comments and share the experience socially.

Career Journey Stations FAQ

  • A career journey provides holistic guidance on how to be job ready in one of the 5 RiseUp roles we’re announcing at Knowledge. Career journeys include courses and learning paths in some cases.
  • A learning path is a collection of ServiceNow technical courses that often result in some form of credential. Some learning paths are requirements for career journeys.
  • A course is an individual unit of learning on a specific topic that can be offered on-demand and/or instructor-led. Courses appear on both learning paths and career journeys.

There is an underlying ‘coffee’ theme threaded throughout Expo. Each hub will have its own ‘Welcome desk’ with someone telling the story of coffee from seed to cup. The RiseUp section is related to the ‘growing’ part of the process – growing the plant from the seed, just like RiseUp is growing people through the funnel from active to employed.
